COEUR d'ALENE - Police officers from all over Kootenai County will hold a lemonade fundraiser to benefit a girl who raised money for one of their fallen brothers.

Sgt. Christie Wood said the Post Falls Police are also planning to sell lemonade in the River City, but details for that fundraiser are still being finalized.

Post Falls Police Chief Scot Haug could not be reached for comment Friday, but City Councilwoman Kerri Thoreson said she will be collaborating with the police department and Councilman Joe Malloy to get something going next weekend.

"I haven't had a chance to talk with Scot about the details yet," Thoreson said, adding she is out of town this weekend and only received an email about it on Friday.

Thoreson said the story of Kiahna Kirk losing her father, Jeff Kirk, in a tragic traffic accident after she raised money for Sgt. Moore's family touched a lot of people's hearts.

"I was a daddy's girl and this just broke my heart," Thoreson said. "And this fundraiser will fall on Father's Day weekend.

"I don't think Kiahna knows how many hearts she has touched."

Shortly after Moore's death, The Press featured Kiahna Kirk who hosted a lemonade stand in honor of Moore. Kiahna raised $200 selling lemonade and baked goods, and donated it to Moore's family.

Just a few weeks later, on May 31, Kiahna lost her father, who was killed in a car accident on U.S. 95 by another driver who allegedly ran a red light. Jeffrey Kirk left behind four children, his parents, and extended family.

From noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 20, the Coeur d'Alene Police Department will host a lemonade stand to benefit Kiahna and her family. Chief Lee White, Mayor Steve Widmyer, the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department and several other law enforcement agencies are participating.

The event will be held at the Police and Fire building behind the Museum of North Idaho in Coeur d'Alene City Park, next to Independence Point.

The Police Association will provide the lemonade, and off-duty police employees, city employees and their spouses will manage the lemonade stand.

"We will do our best to honor Kiahna's father, and we will donate all the proceeds to his children," Wood said. "Please come and support this wonderful family."
