Green jackets at stake in Bulldog Open

Both the U.S. Open and the Bulldog Open are being played this week in the Pacific Northwest. If, per chance, you did not qualify for the U.S. Open, don’t be discouraged because you can still qualify for the prestigious Bulldog Open at Whitefish Lake Golf Club on Sunday, June 21.
Yours truly will be attending both championships and I’m equally excited for my opportunity.
This year’s U.S. Open will feature a rather new course, Chamber’s Bay, just outside of Tacoma, Wash. As usual the course will be a test of the world’s best players on a venue that is not only new to them but also very different from what most are used to playing.
The course is all covered with dwarf fescue grass which is all cut at the same very low height so, while the ball will roll a long way, controlling the distance may be another issue.
Also since the greens and surrounds are all the same height, the USGA will have to mark the border of the green so players will know when they can correctly mark their ball before putting.
While the USGA predicts higher than normal scores, I think the world’s best will figure this out quickly and shoot their normal U.S. Open scores, which are higher than most tournaments.
I look forward to watching the practice rounds to see how they attack the course that will feature five par four holes all over 525 yards in length. So you hit a 300 yard drive and then only have 225 left to the pretty undulated greens.
Back to the Bulldog Open. If you have not already registered it is not too late to get one of the early morning spots for your foursome or check to see if a team needs another player.
This is a fun day of scramble format golf, (less or no pressure) and all designed to raise money for the WLGC Junior Golf Program. Help support Junior golf and enjoy a great day off with your friends in the Bulldog including lunch and dinner all for only $60 per person.
I plan to return Friday night from the U.S. Open so I can participate in the Bulldog for the 37th time. The winners get to take home new green jackets and have their picture placed in our new Champions wall.
