Meeting to look at future school needs

The community is invited to participate in facility planning for Kalispell Public Schools and the future use of property the district purchased south of town.
The June 24 meeting, led by representatives of architectural and engineering firms L’Heureux Page Werner and Morrison-Maierle, starts the process for addressing building needs districtwide.
The facility planning work group will meet at 6 p.m. June 24 in Room 124 of the Linderman Education Center on Third Avenue East to discuss three agenda items.
One talking point on the agenda is determining which grade levels from kindergarten through eight would be housed at a school to be constructed — contingent on funding — on recently acquired property south of town on Airport Road. Building a school at this site would require voter approval of bond funding.
The meeting also will look at what improvements and major preventive maintenance should be done at Glacier and Flathead high schools.
Discussion will also cover the facility needs of the five existing elementary and middle schools. Funding projects also will be discussed.
After the initial facility planning meeting, the work group will meet again in August.
Kalispell Public Schools Superintendent Mark Flatau said the district is seeking community members who will be committed to attend regular monthly meetings for the balance of the school year.
