COEUR d'ALENE - Coeur d'Alene, start your engines.
Car d'Lane's 25th spin around the block begins today, with enough souped-up, vintage and custom rides to fill a stretch Hummer.
"It's very exciting to be a part of it," said Terry Cooper, manager of the Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association, which coordinates the Car d'Lane weekend. "This looks to be one of the best in numbers in attendance for the cruise and the show."
The fun starts with a swap meet in the green space at Sixth Street and Sherman Avenue. The swap will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Saturday.
Registration for the "Cruisin' by the Lake" cruise begins at 9 a.m. and continues through the start of the cruise, which revs up at 6 p.m. The registration tent is located in the southwest corner of the parking lot of Peterson Family Foods, 1211 Sherman Ave. Pre-registration packets need to be picked up there, as well as maps for a poker run that will take car enthusiasts through local garages as they search for the perfect poker hand.
The Car d'Lane Cruise goes from 6-9 p.m. beginning at Seventh Street and Lakeside Avenue and roaring in a loop through downtown, along Fourth Street, Wallace Avenue, Second Street and Sherman Avenue. The Best Flames and Best Pipes contests will take place at Fifth and Sherman.
Cooper said the North Idaho Classic Car Club has been a big part of the event.
"The partnership with the North Idaho Classic Car Club has gone on for years and years," Cooper said, adding that it's that partnership that has made Car d'Lane a success for a quarter of a century. He said this year, spectators can expect some "very impressive classic cars," and the weather should be agreeable as well.
"We are excited about the 60-70 degree weather," Cooper said.
Saturday begins with the Show and Shine from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hoods will be popped and classics will be parked from the intersection at Northwest Boulevard and Lakeside down Sherman to Eighth Street and from Third to Seventh along Lakeside. Pinstriping and detailing demonstrations will take place at Sixth and Sherman. Sheets for the poker walk, featuring cash prizes, can be purchased at the registration booth Friday or at the T-shirt booth, 316 Sherman Ave., on Saturday. People's choice ballots will also be available there.
The awards ceremony begins at 4 p.m. at Fifth and Sherman. Winners will be notified prior to 3 p.m.
