COEUR d'ALENE - The Lt. George Farragut Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will host a fundraiser Saturday in Coeur d'Alene to support veterans projects.
The chapter will host a pancake breakfast Saturday from 8-10 a.m. at Applebee's, 280 W. Hanley Ave., Coeur d'Alene. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee, all served with smiles from DAR servers. Tickets are $9 at the door. Credit cards and debit cards cannot be accepted.
This is the fourth time in as many years that the chapter has hosted this event to promote their service to veterans projects. Beneficiaries of funds raised include: Inland Northwest Honor Flight, Kootenai County Veterans Council to fund the traveling Vietnam Wall in 2013, and DAR National Project Patriot, which helps fund projects such as the U.S. Army Medical Center at Landstuhl, Germany.
"This has always been a heartfelt effort on behalf of our veterans," said event chairperson Chickie Berry.
Daughters of the American Revolution is an organization open to all women who can trace their ancestry back to the Revolutionary War. Genealogists within the chapter are expert at helping interested women find "patriots" in their family trees. The national organization was founded in 1890 in Washington, D.C., by a group of women who were denied membership in the newly founded Sons of the American Revolution. Lt. George Farragut Chapter has been in existence since 1965 and will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in October.
In addition to its patriotic roots, DAR supports many other interests including but not limited to: Genealogy, history, education, conservation, women's issues and literacy. The group meets the third Friday of each month September through May at 10 a.m. at Hayden Lake Country Club.
