LEGION BASEBALL: Lozier's homer helps Prairie win one at tourney
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 9 years, 7 months AGO
POST FALLS - Dalton Lozier went 2 for 4 and hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to help seal the Prairie Cardinals' 8-3 victory over the Wenatchee Packers on the opening day of the Best of the Northwest wood-bat tournament Friday at Post Falls High.
"This game was a good, solid team win," Prairie coach Brian Fowler said. "We got a great complete-game effort by Jacob Elliott on the mound, had some great defensive plays including a great diving catch from Corbin Buck, and some big hits from our offense."
Earlier Thursday, Prairie lost to the Spokane Crew 11-3. Chris Kirkeby went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a stolen base for the Cardinals (6-14).
"The big story for this game was errors," Fowler said. "We made way too many errors that ended up costing us a lot of runs. Against a good team like that we need to play much better defense if we want to be competitive."
Today, Prairie plays the Billings Royals at 1 p.m. and the Spokane Expos at 6, both at Post Falls High.
