George David McInturff, 66, ended his two-year battle with cancer on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at the Hospice House in Coeur d'Alene, with his brother and nieces by his side.

George was born on March 14, 1949, in Berkeley, Calif., to William John "Pete" and Margaret Frances (Beale) McInturff. After living briefly in St. Louis, Mo., with his aunt Marla, George and his brother Bill, and their mother and stepfather Lloyd Metcalfe, settled in Southern California. The boys grew up in the Pasadena area and George graduated from Blair High School in Pasadena in 1967 as a member of the new school's first graduating class. He participated in baseball and football in his high school years.

Following graduation, George enrolled in Pasadena City College. He married Blair classmate Pamela Sutton in December 1968, a marriage which later ended in divorce.

George joined the U.S. Naval Reserve. He served in Vietnam 1969-1970 and was later honorably discharged. He worked for several employers in California, including Mack Trucks and Servo Products, and held a variety of positions including as an aircraft commercial inspector.

In January 1977 George married Kathy Storland and they moved to Moscow, Idaho, later that year, where he worked for many years for Moscow Idaho Seed. While in Moscow he enjoyed playing in the men's summer softball league. A near fatal car accident in 1985 effectively ended his softball career.

After his marriage to Kathy ended, George moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, in 1995. Following his mother's death there in 1997, George relocated to Southern California. He settled in Henderson, Nev., in 2000, where he shared life with Vivienne Swartz and finished his working career as a security guard in Las Vegas. Vivienne passed away in 2011. George moved to Coeur d'Alene in 2012 to be nearer to family.

Wherever George lived, his home was always open to family and friends and he welcomed drop-in visitors. His was a gentle soul. He had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs, and he loved cars, especially Chevys.

George was preceded in death by his stepfather, Lloyd, in 1963; his father in 1966; and his mother in 1997. He is survived by his brother, Bill (Sharon) McInturff of Hayden; nieces Lisa McInturff of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Debbie (Andrew) Reed of Vancouver, Wash., and several cousins.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice House of North Idaho for their gentle care during his final days.

Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society or to a charity of your choice. A graveside service will be held in the Moscow Cemetery at a later date.
