BOISE - Maggie Vietri had two goals for the Coeur d'Alene Sting U18 team in a 4-1 win over the Blues in the Far West Regional tournament on Monday.
Megan Lowery and Sadie Schmeling each added a goal in a match that coach Dan Hogan called, "A big-time upset."
Hogan said on Vietri's first score, a ball was played over the top of the Blues defenders about 35 yards from the end line near the left touch line. Meaghan Bare dribbled diagonally into the middle commuting two backs and then slipped the ball across to Vietri who was even with the right post. Vietri powered past 1 defender and dribbled past the goalie passing the ball into the net.
Hogan said Vietri's second goal came off a defensive play in the middle of the field. The ball popped out behind the Blues backs, Vietri ran onto the ball saw the keeper was way out of goal and chipped the ball over the goalie.
"Even though we had gotten behind their backs several times the Blues continued to play a high back line which also helped in both Lowery's and Schmeling's goal," Hogan said.
