The 13th annual Troy Kids’ Fishing Day at the Community Pond at Roosevelt Park was billed as a success. The event was held Saturday and more than 50 area youth participated.

“The event went really well. We had 51 kids show up and participate,” Jim Dunnigan, the Fisheries Biologist for Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, said.

Dunnigan has seen his fair share of Fishing Days. He’s been helping put together the event each year of it’s existence.

The kids were fishing for rainbow and cutthroat trout. A large number of fish were caught by the youngsters, ranging in size from under a half pound to a nearly six-pound trophy.

“The fishing was pretty good. The biggest fish that was caught weighed five pounds,” Dunnigan said. “The average fish ranged from a half to three quarters of a pound.”

Haydyn Stone caught the biggest fish of the day. His winning fish weighed 5.835 pounds. Nathan Selle took home the second biggest fish. His fish weighed 3.025 pounds. Jackson Williams caught the third biggest fish. His fish weighed .880 pounds.

The fishing day is always an event that the kids in the community enjoy.

“It’s always a lot of fun. I think the kids always look forward to the event every summer,” Dunnigan said.  “It’s just a fun event that we get to participate in and I look forward to seeing the kids out fishing next year.”
