The theft of a concrete company vehicle has been linked to two men, one of whom is an Alaska fugitive who assumed a Marion man’s identity.

Jeffrey Allen Schubauer, a 43-year-old Alaska man, is facing felony theft charges in Flathead County. He is wanted in Alaska for violating probation, according to court records.

Marion resident Douglas Alexis Campbell, 18, has been charged with felony theft in the same incident.

They’re accused of stealing a truck belonging to a Marion concrete company on June 21. An employee spotted the truck at a convenience store and called the police. Schubauer allegedly was driving with Campbell in the passenger seat.

According to court records, Schubauer told the witness that someone named James gave permission to use the vehicle. The owner of the concrete company arrived and said that the story was false.

Some tools and sporting equipment in the truck were later reported and identified as stolen goods from another Marion resident, according to court documents.

Authorities didn’t identify Schubauer right away.

He had reportedly given deputies a different name, which appeared on early court documents.

Schubauer gave deputies a driver’s license that belonged to a 23-year-old Marion man who previously was reported missing, according to Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry.

Curry said that it was apparent that the 43-year-old Schubauer was not the Marion man, Scott Edward Shirk. According to court documents, the actual Shirk is the subject in an ongoing missing person investigation.

He eventually was identified as Jeffrey Schubauer, who faces arrest warrants in Alaska for probation violations. According to court records, he has a lengthy criminal history in that state including burglary, vehicle theft, assault and criminal mischief.

Of the two, Schubauer is still listed on the Flathead County Detention Center roster.

Both men are scheduled to be arraigned in Flathead County District Court on July 9.
