Gonzaga to face Tennessee in Battle in Seattle
SPOKANE - Gonzaga's men's basketball team will face Tennessee in the upcoming Battle in Seattle on Dec. 19 at KeyArena, school officials announced Tuesday.
Tickets will be available to the general public on Friday, Sept. 18 through TicketMaster. Eligible Bulldog Club members will have the opportunity to purchase tickets prior to the general public. Ticket prices and Bulldog Club member presale information will be released later this summer.
The game will mark the 13th Battle in Seattle for Gonzaga and a rematch of the 2007 Battle in Seattle in which then-11th-ranked Tennessee earned an 82-72 win over the Zags. GU is 8-4 all-time in 12 previous Battle in Seattle games.
Gonzaga is coming off a school-record 35-3 season and a trip to the Elite Eight.
Tennessee went 16-16 last season, and will have a new coach in Rick Barnes, who spent the last 17 seasons as the head coach at Texas.
Shock quarterback Coffman earns AFL offensive honor
LAS VEGAS - Spokane Shock quarterback Carson Coffman was named Offensive Player of Coffman (6-3, 215, Kansas State) completed 20 of 32 passes for 328 yards and a career-high nine touchdowns in his first start since Week 6. The fourth-year pro connected with wide receiver Nick Truesdell on five of those scoring strikes, propelling the Shock to victory at Portland, 69-54, on Sunday.
Chiefs announce WHL preseason schedule
SPOKANE - The Spokane Chiefs will play seven pre-season games, culminating with their only home contest vs. the Tri-City Americans on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Spokane Arena at 2 p.m.
The Chiefs kick off their 2015 preseason schedule with the annual Everett Silvertips preseason tournament, taking on the Portland Winterhawks at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4 in Everett. They play the hosting Silvertips on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. before facing the Seattle Thunderbirds in a 3 p.m. Sunday matinee game.
Spokane then heads to Kennewick for the Tri-City Americans preseason tournament on Thursday, Sept. 10, again beginning their tournament play against Portland at 3 p.m. The Chiefs will act as the home team against the Red Deer Rebels in their second tournament game in Kennewick on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 3 p.m.
The Chiefs will close out their preseason schedule with a home-and-home series against the rival Americans, beginning on the road on Friday, Sept. 18 at 7:05 p.m. at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.
They will host the Americans at Spokane Arena on the 19th for their only home contest.
The Chiefs' 72-game 2015-16 regular season schedule is scheduled to be released today.
