POST FALLS - Police on Thursday said no suspects have emerged in the bizarre case where a dead animal was left on a Post Falls boy's bed on Tuesday night.

Post Falls Police Capt. Greg McLean viewed an officer's photo of the animal that was flat, partially decomposed and had dark brown fur. He said it resembled a cat that had been run over by a vehicle.

"It's difficult to tell what it is because it's decayed," McLean said. "It looks like someone found it along the road."

The officer wrote in his report that he couldn't definitively tell what kind of animal it is either.

The boy's father told police that when he checked on a crashing sound coming from his son's bedroom on Tuesday night after 9, he found the dead animal and several pulled-up flowers or plants on the bed. A lamp had also been knocked off the nightstand, which is believed to have caused the crashing sound, according to the report.

McLean said it appears someone entered the home on Fourth Avenue through the boy's bedroom window because it was open.

The officer asked the boy, who was also home at the time, what had happened and his version of the events leading to finding the animal match his father's, the police report states.

Neither the father nor his son knew of any immediate suspects or leads, but the boy said he was having problems with another kid in the area.

However, neither the father nor his son knows where that kid lives, according to police.

"Obviously, if a kid was involved, it's not a good friend of the boy's," McLean said. "They either did it as a prank or were being vindictive. It's hard to say."

The family couldn't be reached for comment on Wednesday or Thursday.
