Keeping the faith: Truck stolen while owner's in church

COEUR d'ALENE - Ben Jaklich has been reminded that there's no sacred ground when it comes to thieves.
The Rathdrum man had his fixed-up Toyota truck stolen from, of all places, in front of Candlelight Christian Fellowship during a church service on Sunday.
"I knew no one was messing with me because I was the only one who had keys," Jaklich said. "I knew instantly that someone had taken it. I didn't want to believe my eyes. Who would have thought that their truck would be stolen from a church?"
Jaklich said he locked the doors and, when he came out of the service, there was no broken glass on the dirt frontage road off U.S. 95 in front of the church. He said he was in the church from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
"Everybody parks on that road; it's not like it's an unusual place to park," he said.
Jaklich said it's possible that his truck was opened and started with a shaved key.
Jaklich said the incident at the church is a test of his faith, but he believes it has only made it stronger.
"God had a plan and will carry me through," the 32-year-old electrician said. "Even though it's a bad time in my life to be out financially, He will work it to my good somehow. I never give up on trusting God. His plan is better than mine."
Jaklich, who has owned the truck for nine years, said he just put a new motor in the 1993 blue-green truck with an extended cab. He also added a winch, floodlights, custom front bumper, canopy and coating to the bed over the years.
Inside the truck, Jaklich also had a Glock pistol and air compressor.
Jaklich said he only has liability on his insurance.
"Unless it's found, I'm out a truck," he said.
Jaklich said the hardest part of the theft is losing what he put into it.
"I have about $5,000 and a lot of years of work building that truck," he said. "I planned to keep it for (a long time) and let my kids enjoy it. I have a lot of great memories with it."
