Lenora Alice (Best) Reese, 85, of Coeur d'Alene, was born Jan. 13, 1930, in Deer Park, Wash., to David and Ruth (Brunton) Best. Lenora "Lee" suffered a stroke on June 15, 2014, and struggled with related complications throughout the past year. She went home to be with the Lord, Jesus Christ, on June 22, 2015.
Lee graduated from Okanogan High School, class of 1948. She was a businesswoman and bookkeeper in the trucking industry in Omak, Wash., for many years as well as an entrepreneur in the carpet business in Wenatchee, Wash., until her retirement in 1990. Lee also resided in Cashmere and Leavenworth, Wash., and Hayden Lake, Bayview and Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
On June 5, 2003, Lee was joined in marriage to Walter T. Reese.
Lee's activities included gardening, reading, swimming, sewing and playing guitar and piano. She also had an artistic side and loved to paint, decorate cakes and make ceramics in her own kiln.
Lee was an active member of The Shepherd of the Hills Church in Rathdrum, Idaho, where she served on various church committees. She enjoyed helping design floral arrangements for the sanctuary. Lee also had a passion for helping second year seminary students with the financial support needed to continue in their studies after completing their first year.
Lee was preceded in death by her brother, Darrold, in 2005; her step-daughter Jennine (Reese) Parnell in 2004; and stepson Bill Hendrex in 1989. Survivors include her husband, Walter, at home; son Vernon Dave Ewer (Jane) of Benton City, Wash., daughter Vonnie Hendrex of Coeur d'Alene; stepsons Tom Reese (Marilyn) of Atlanta, Ga., and Kerry Reese (Robin) of Everett, Wash.; sister Mona DeWitt (Ray) of Colville, Wash.; grandchildren Toni Mackin, Erik Hendrex, Adam Ewer, Jennifer Ewer, Jacqueline Robinson; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, at The Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 13541 W. Hwy 53, Rathdrum, Idaho, with a reception to follow.
