SCHAWANA - A Yakima man was injured in a two-vehicle crash about two miles from here, near the Cherry Barn, on Highway 243 on June 15, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The 9:40 a.m. accident involved two cars. The WSP said neither alcohol nor drugs were involved. All vehicle occupants were properly restrained.

Injured was David P. Chamberlain, 68. He was driving a black 2006 GMC pickup. He was taken by ambulance to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland.

The pickup and travel trailer it was pulling were totaled. They were removed by David Towing of Schawana.

The driver of the second vehicle was Teresa Vivar, 36 of Beverly. She was driving a silver 2008 Honda van. Vivar was not injured. The car was driven from the scene.

A passenger in the Vivar vehicle was Karen Vivar, 17. She was not injured. Another passenger in the Vivar vehicle was Abigail Vivar, 17. She was not injured.

According to the State Patrol, the crash occurred when both drivers attempted to make a pass. Chamberlain was trying to pass a vehicle in front of him. At the same time, Vivar tried to pass the Chamberlain vehicle.

Vivar's vehicle struck Chamberlain's. Chamberlain's pickup and trailer left the roadway to the left and rolled.

Vivar was cited by the WSP for "fail to yield."
