Kenneth Ardell Bratlie, 82, a resident of the Rock Creek community, Ore., passed away Jan. 22, 2015, at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, Ore.
Ken was born Jan. 22, 1933, in Clear Lake, S.D. He was the youngest of three sons born to Olaf and Dorothy (Spiering) Bratlie. As a young child, Ken moved to Hayden Lake, Idaho, where he attended Coeur d'Alene High School graduating with the class of 1951. He was an accomplished athlete in football, basketball, track and field. He later attended the University of Idaho graduating in 1956 with a degree in mechanical engineering.
Ken married his high school sweetheart, Betty Capaul, on June 28, 1953, and they made their home in Moscow, Idaho, until Ken graduated. They lived in Vancouver, Wash., before moving to Hillsboro, Ore., in 1964. They settled in the Rock Creek Community in 1981.
Ken worked as a mechanical engineer first for Peerless Trailer, then became co-owner of Columbia Trailer until retiring in 1998.
In his spare time Ken enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and home remodeling projects. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; brother Harold; and his parents. Survivors include three children and a son-in-law: Debra Bratlie of Vancouver, Wash., Vicki and Randy Parrish of LaBelle, Fla., and Kenny Bratlie of Forest Grove, Ore.; brother Norman Bratlie of Coeur d'Alene; four grandchildren: Karin, Jeremiah, Jordan, and Danny; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Trevor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life honoring Ken was held Jan. 25 at the Rock Creek Country Club in Portland, Ore. Entombment will take place this summer at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d'Alene.
