Joan Lewis, mother and grandmother, died on Feb. 26, 2015, at Life Care Center in Coeur d'Alene.

Joan was born Feb. 13, 1929, to Neil and Winifred Sullivan Ward in Butte, Mont. She attended lmmaculate Conception grade school and graduated from Butte Girls Central High. Upon graduation Joan moved to Spokane, Wash., and was an employee of the telephone company. lt was there she met Bud Lewis, and they were married in 1954.

Joan and Bud made their home in St. Maries, Idaho, working together running Blue Ribbon Creamery, collecting milk from the local farms and producing butter and cream. This led them to opening Bud's Big Burgers, a business they worked together daily until Bud's death in 1989. Joan continued to operate the Drive-in until 1995. She married Matt Moshinsky in 1992 until his death in 2002. She moved to Hayden, Idaho, in 2003. She volunteered at the Hospice Thrift Store and enjoyed the women she met and worked with there.

Joan loved her life at her home on the St. Joe River, and spent many hours gardening alongside it. She accompanied her husband as he served St. Maries and District 3 as mayor and state representative. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports. She was known for her homemade pies that she made for friends, family, and sold at Bud's Big Burgers.

Joan was preceded in death by her two husbands, Bud Lewis and Matt Moshinsky. She is survived by her children Diane Herboldt and husband Dale of St. Maries, and Michael Lewis and wife Georjean of Peyton, Colo.; grandchildren Ryan Vandall (Christina) of Coeur d'Alene, Michelle Taylor (Michael) of Coeur d'Alene, and Cameron Vandall of Moscow, Idaho. She was also blessed with great-granddaughters Gwendolyn, Emily and Evelyn Taylor and Brynn Vandall, all of Coeur d'Alene.

The family would like to thank all the care providers and therapists at Life Care Center who worked to make Mom's last two months as comfortable as possible. A special thank you from the family goes to Sheila Buckley who helped Mom in so many ways over the past few years.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 5, at St. Mary lmmaculate Catholic Church, St. Maries.
