Poor gastrointestinal function and chronic inflammation are two areas of research found to contribute to some health disorders, including chronic joint pain, fibromyalgia, autoimmune disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety, and obesity.

The connection is through the nervous system, and the main regulator of both systems is the Vagus nerve. It is the "shut off" valve that controls the inflammatory response and also controls many functions. including digestion and sensations of hunger.

Through research, we are beginning to understand more about the importance of the digestive tract, gut flora and its impact on our overall health. Simply stated, when we have poor digestion this can lead to the improper breakdown of food and nutrients causing a breakdown in communication between the digestive system and nervous system. This can lead to skewed information along the pathway resulting in production of systemic inflammation.

So if information coming into the body is skewed or incorrect than outgoing information is also skewed and inflammation can run rampant throughout the body. Research is helping us to better understand the importance of the digestive system and how we can aid in helping it to function properly. Absorption of proper nutrients aids in vital for the body to function and aids in its ability to heal.

One way to help keep the digestive tract healthy is to supplement with probiotics in your daily diet. Other tips to aid in proper function can include specific spinal adjustments, increasing your daily water intake, eating a healthy diet of vegetables and fruit, and relaxation techniques.
