Shopping trip turns into illegal 'pleasure' excursion
Loss prevention employees at Walmart in Hayden were perplexed Monday when they observed a man walking through the store, tearing photos of women off the packaging of items and putting the items in his sweatshirt pocket.
They watched him do it about 20 times. He picked up hair coloring packages, silicone breast enhancers and tags from women's underwear. When his sweatshirt pocket was full, the employees watched the man begin placing items down the front of his sweatpants.
The man then filled his cart with other items, and as he walked toward the front of the store, items began to fall out the leg of his sweatpants.
The suspect was taken to the loss prevention office where a sheriff's deputy questioned him. He told the deputy he had gone to Walmart for some other items and while there, he felt compelled to take the pictures of women from packages.
He reportedly told the deputy he took them for "pleasure," that he intended to use the packages to masturbate.
The suspect said he did not think his need to take the packages was abnormal, but that he had never felt the need to take packaging with women's photos from the store before.
The man was cited for petit theft and trespassed from Walmart.
Lure of casino leads to possible theft charge
A Coeur d'Alene man is facing a grand theft charge after surveillance footage captured him taking a wallet off a table at the Coeur d'Alene Casino in Worley last weekend.
The victim, a man from Rockford, Wash., told Kootenai County Sheriff's deputies he left his wallet, with $1,900 in cash in it, at a blackjack table when he went to get a drink.
The casino's video monitors recorded a man who sat down at the table around 11:15 p.m. He sat down and then quickly reached for the wallet and concealed it in a red sports cap.
The man left the table five minutes later and at 11:27 he left the casino with a woman.
The sheriff's deputies left the casino, but remained in the area. They were summoned back to the casino shortly before 4 a.m. by casino security personnel who observed the man and woman believed to have left the casino with the wallet sitting at a blackjack table.
Sheriff's deputies questioned the man, who allegedly admitted to taking the wallet.
He also said he dropped it on the floor before he and his girlfriend left the casino to get something to eat at Jack-in-the-Box in Coeur d'Alene. He told police his girlfriend wanted to continue playing blackjack, so they drove back to the casino.
The deputy did not arrest him because he became ill during questioning and was transported to Kootenai Health. The deputy did file a complaint request for a charge of grand theft. The man was trespassed from the casino for 30 days, pending a review of the case by casino officials.
