North Idaho College will present "Gloria" winter chorale concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center.

"Gloria" will celebrate the music of Antonio Vivaldi, Ola Gjeilo, Hugo Distler, Franz Biebl and others. The NIC Cardinal Chorale, Cardinal Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Singers will perform, with the concert benefitting Family Promise of North Idaho.

The concert's centerpiece will be Antonio Vivaldi's "Gloria in D Major" performed by NIC Cardinal Chorale and Chamber Orchestra. Settings of the Latin "Ubi caritas," "Ave Maria," "Exsulatate justi," and the Lutheran "Lobe den Herren" will be performed by the Chamber Singers.

Vivaldi's "Gloria in D Major" is a 12-movement setting of the Latin Ordinary prayer. Composed in 1715 for chorus, orchestra, and soprano and alto soloists, this work has become a timeless classic. NIC faculty member Andrea Dawson and former NIC student Angela Dredge, will join the choir as the soprano and alto soloist, respectively.

"A Season for Singing, A Season for Giving" is the NIC Choir's theme for the year. In keeping with this theme, the choirs are partnering with Family Promise of North Idaho for this concert. Representatives from Family Promise of North Idaho will be on-hand at the concert to talk about their worthwhile endeavors.

The mission of Family Promise of North Idaho is to serve homeless families with children and empower them to achieve sustainable housing.

North Idaho College Cardinal Chorale consists of singers from across campus and community. They perform regularly on the Schuler stage and in area churches. This ensemble has collaborated with the Coeur d'Alene Symphony and Northwest Sacred Music Chorale and recently collaborated with composer Tim Sharp to perform his "High Lonesome Mass" in Coeur d'Alene. In May 2015, members of this choir will travel to New York City to be a part of the Carnegie Hall debut of "High Lonesome Mass."

NIC's Chamber Singers have traveled to Mexico and San Francisco to perform for enthusiastic audiences. Their repertoire spans from early chant to a cappella arrangements of modern songs.

All of the choral ensembles are under the direction of Max Mendez. Celebrating his 10th year at NIC, Mendez has taken choirs to Mexico City, San Francisco, Seattle and Spokane to perform in concerts and festivals. Mendez is a sought after clinician, conductor and adjudicator throughout the Northwest region.

The concert is free and open to the public.
