Kootenai, Plummer-Worley, St. Maries school levies pass

Voters in the Kootenai, St. Maries and Plummer-Worley school districts on Tuesday approved supplemental levies to support maintenance and operations.
The funds are used for transportation, textbooks, supplies and extra-curricular programs.
In the Kootenai district, voters approved $1.8 million in local property tax support over the next two years at $900,000 per year. For the owner of a $200,000 home with a homeowners exemption, the cost of the levy will be $17.75 per month.
The voting was 171 in favor (66 percent); 87 opposed.
"We are extremely grateful to the members of our community for continuing to support the students and staff of Kootenai school district," said Lynette Ferguson, principal/superintendent. "The district will continue to strive to provide quality educational opportunities and instruction for our students."
Plummer-Worley voters approved a levy of $550,000 a year for two years, the same amount as the existing expiring levy.
The voting was 361 in favor (62 percent); 218 opposed.
The St. Maries levy is $2.07 million per year for two years, a $228,685 increase from the existing levy. The voting was 534 in favor (53 percent); 483 opposed.
The owner of a $100,000 home will pay $25.88 per year to support the levy and the owner of a $200,000 home $57.15.
"We are very appreciative of our patrons' continued support for St. Maries Joint School District and the students and families we serve," said Joseph Kren, school superintendent. "We know that these continue to be difficult times, and we are proud to be associated with such tremendous patrons, business owners, parents and staff.
"Our schools and our trustees take this very seriously and we will continue to be good stewards of the academic and fiscal responsibilities we are charged with."
