March events at Lincoln County libraries

The Lincoln County Public Library System will be presenting a full calendar of programs during the month of March with all events free and open to the public.

Story time for preschool -age children will be held on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. at the Libby library, on Fridays at 11:15 a.m. at the Troy library and on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the Eureka library.

Every Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. the Troy Library will host chess games for all ages and experience levels. Bring a partner and your favorite board or use one of the boards available. People willing to teach, mentor or challenge will be on hand.

To help encourage spring-cleaning, this month Lincoln County libraries are offering to waive late penalties for overdue books returned in good condition during Amnesty March at any of the three libraries. Overdue inter-library loan materials are not included.

March is national craft month. Stop by the Libby library each week to pick up instructions for do it yourself crafts. From stationery to wreaths, there will be a craft for you.

The Lincoln County Library is sponsoring Shakespeare’s Macbeth as performed by the Pitiful Players. Shows will be on March 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. at the Maki Theater in Libby. The performances are free, but donations will be accepted.

March 18: At 4 p.m. join the Libby library for an after school program for kids age 6 to 12 to make and play with playdough that can then be taken home.

March 19: At 10:30 a.m. Head Start will lead story time in Troy.

March 25: At 4 p.m. join the Libby after school program for “Waffle Day.” Kids ages 6 to 12 will enjoy a waffle snack and learn about the rich history of waffles.

March 25: Cabinet Peaks Brewing in Libby will host Latino Montana, the third presentation in the Race in Montana series. Bridget Kevane will talk about Montana’s 200-year Latino history and about the more recent arrival of Latinos in the state.

March 28: At 11 a.m. at Libby join the library for a hot drink and a good book for the monthly book discussion. The month features “Uglies” by Scott Westerfield, a young adult novel dealing with passionate desire to be beautiful. The book features Tally Youngblood who lives in a futuristic society that makes all its resident pretty. But Tally can’t get the operation unless she betrays her friend who escaped to the rustic country to live off the grid. In her pursuit, Tally discovers a dirty secret about the pretty operation, and those who perform it. Copies of the book are available for two-week checkout at the library.
