ROYAL CITY - Royal City's Kai Jenks will receive his Boy Scout Eagle Award at a Court of Honor tomorrow, Wednesday, March 18, at the Royal City hall.

The ceremony will get under way at 7 p.m.

For his Eagle project, Jenks spearheaded the building of a new evidence room at city hall for the Royal City Police Department. The project counted on numerous volunteers and took two years to complete.

"He showed perseverance and didn't give up, finally completing the project last summer," Jenks' mother, Heather Jenks, said.

This Eagle project required more than 230 combined hours of service between more than 15 volunteers helping throughout its two-year duration.

"There were definitely times I wanted to quit but I just kept going," Kai Jenks said. "Looking back, it's good to see the fruits of my labors being put to good use. I feel like I've learned that one person can make a difference if they really want to."

Jenks has had three principal goals in life since he was a young boy. They are: serve a mission, become an Eagle Scout and succeed his father at Jenks Bros. Cold Storage and Packing.

Jenks has achieved the second of his goals and will soon embark on the first. He has accepted a call from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to serve for two years as a missionary in the Washington DC north mission after graduation from Royal High this spring.

"He is deeply grateful to all those who have helped him and supported him along this path to becoming an Eagle Scout," Heather Jenks said.

Jenks is a Senior at Royal High School. Upon returning from his mission, he plans on furthering his education by attending BYU-Idaho to study Ag Business.

"I think scouting creates better young men, the kind of young men this world needs." Jenks said.
