When choosing a new health care provider, it can be overwhelming. We often ask friends or family members for a referral but sometimes they simply don't have an answer. When navigating this road alone, here are some basic tips on important things to look for when searching for a qualified health provider. We will also mention specific things to look for when choosing a spinal decompression clinic.

1. Make sure a licensed health provider is the one giving you advice or evaluating you at your appointment. This may seem like a given expectation, but you would be surprised to learn how many offices have unqualified staff providing advice to patients.

2. You want to have a thorough evaluation and consultation, review of records and any imaging before a treatment plan is even discussed.

3. They have your best interest in mind and they do not guarantee results or make promises that seem unrealistic.

4. Treatment should be specific to your needs. When looking at chiropractic or spinal decompression, therapy should focus on reducing pain and goals should be set to help improve strength and stability. This will aid in overall recovery and assist in preventing future injury.

5. There should be periodic evaluations to monitor your progress during treatment and changes should be made when necessary to help further improve your results with care. With regard to spinal decompression, adjustments can be made to the decompression table by changing the various factors such as the duration of time, resistance or pull on the spine to specifically meet the needs of each person.

6. Affordable fees for services, especially when they are not covered by insurance.

Motor vehicle accidents: When should I get evaluated for injuries?

The answer is immediately following the accident, even if you don't have any pain. The reason for this is that many individuals do not display symptoms for days, weeks or even months after the incident. It is important to have a thorough evaluation by a qualified physician, either your family physician or a chiropractor to determine if you sustained any injuries or complicating factors of previous health concerns. Some family physicians may even make a recommendation for physical therapy or chiropractic care.

Text neck

Modern day technology is having a negative effect on our spine and body mechanics. Think back to 10 years ago, cell phone usage wasn't anywhere near what it is today. Only half or maybe a third of high school students even had a cell phone back when texting was limited to about 200 per month. Nowadays, however, it seems the average age to receive your first smart phone is around 10 years old. Below are some details about the bad cell phone habits the doctors at Optimal Chiropractic see with many patients.

Joint pain: When should parents worry?

What does this mean and should you be concerned? After 16 years of private practice and pediatric care, I have found that anytime a child complains about joint pain it should not be overlooked. I understand that some children are more sensitive and complain on a regular basis, but it is best to address joint pain right away.
