Derrick Williams, of Columbia Falls, a sophomore on Colorado State University-Pueblo men’s track and field team, helped guide the Men’s Distance Medley Team to a runner-up finish at the 2015 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 13-14.
With a time of 9:41.82, the CSU distance medley team finished second to Adams State, which crossed the finish line just 0.03 seconds ahead for a new indoor meet record. Williams ran the 1,600-meter leg in the medley.
Williams also placed second in the 3,000 meter run to earn his second All-American honor of the weekend. He crossed the finish line at 8:03.14, which would have been a new meet record, but Kevin Batt of Adams State University broke his own record by posting a time of 8:01.42.
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference claimed the top three spots in the event, as Williams finished just 0.17 of a second faster than Marty Andrie, from Colorado School of Mines.
Williams is the son of Ray and Mara Williams and holds several running records at Columbia Falls High School.
