NAIA, NJCAA TOURNAMENTS: Legel guides Great Falls past Loyola in opening round

Former Coeur d'Alene High standout Erin Legel had a team-high 23 points and eight assists, leading the seventh-seeded Great Falls Argos past the second-seeded Loyola Wolf Pack 73-54 on Wednesday in the opening round of the NAIA Division I tournament in Independence, Mo.

Kendalyn Brainard, also of Coeur d'Alene, had 10 rebounds and six points for Great Falls (23-9), which faces Langston (Okla.) today in the Sweet 16.

Oklahoma City 63, Lewis-Clark State 61: Former Coeur d'Alene High standout Caelyn Orlandi had 10 points and former Post Falls standout Brooke Litalien had four points and four assists for the eighth seed Warriors in a loss to defending NAIA champion and top-seed Oklahoma City (26-2).

Georgia Highlands 67, Southern Idaho 66: At Hutchinson, Kan., Abdoulaye Harouna scored 16 points for Southern Idaho (31-3), which lost to Georgia Highlands (29-6) in the second round of the NJCAA men's tournament.

Jared Phay, who left North Idaho College for CSI last May, was named District 1 Coach of the Year before the Golden Eagles game.

Southern Idaho 90, Tyler 78: At Salina, Kan., Elisabet Lopez Sagrera had 21 points and seven rebounds, leading Southern Idaho (22-11) past Tyler (29-5) in the second round of the NJCAA women's tournament.

Iowa Western 57, Salt Lake 46: At Salina, Kan., Shelby Richards scored 20 points for Salt Lake (27-7), which was eliminated in the second round of the NJCAA tournament by Iowa Western (31-3).
