Candidates file for May 19 elections

Candidates for the May 19 taxing district elections filed before Friday's deadline to have their names on the ballot.

“Some candidates filed late this week, yet many races remain uncontested,” said Kootenai County Clerk Jim Brannon.

The write-in candidate filing deadline is Friday, April 3 at 5 p.m.

Here are the candidates that will be on the ballot:

SCHOOL BOARDS (four-year-terms)

Coeur d'Alene — Casey Morrisroe of Hayden was the lone candidate to file in Zone 2. The current holder, Tom Hamilton, decided to not seek a second term. The Zone 3 race will feature incumbent Terri Semour, Tambra Pickford and Alicia Troye.

Post Falls — Incumbents Michelle Lippert in Zone 2 and Bonnie Beaulieu in Zone 3 were the only candidates who filed.

Lakeland — Incumbents Kyle Olmstead in Zone 1 (Spirit Lake/Twin Lakes), John Shaffer Zone 2 (Athol) and Tim Skubitz Zone 3 (north of Hauser, Rathdrum, Hayden Lake) were the only candidates who filed.

Kootenai — Jonathon Verkist was the lone candidate to file for Zone 2 (Carlin Bay). No one filed for Zone 3 (Medimont) currently held by Mitch Donohoe.

Plummer-Worley — Incumbents Tammy Gauthier (Zone 2), Jaycee Swan (Zone 4) and Marlow Thompson (Zone 6) were the only candidates to file.

CONSOLIDATED FREE LIBRARY (six-year terms)

Barbara Arnold and Michele Veale filed as incumbents and Nancy Curotto a challenger for two open seats.

KOOTENAI HOSPITAL DISTRICT

Incumbents James Eisses, Terence Neff and Katie Brodie filed for three open seats.

HIGHWAY DISTRICTS

East Side — Incumbent Chris Fillios will be challenged by Terry Wall and Graham Christensen for the Zone 1 seat. Incumbent Mark Addington is the lone candidate in Zone 3. Both seats are four-year terms.

Lakes — Incumbent Monty Montgomery is the lone candidate in Zone 2. Incumbent Daniel Malcolm will be challenged by Diane Fountain in Zone 3. Both are four-year seats.

Post Falls — Incumbent Terry Werner will be challenged by Michael Scott in Zone 1, a four-year seat. Incumbent Robert Miller will be challenged by Jeff Tyler and Randy Oaks in Zone 2, a five-year seat. Incumbent Lynn Humphreys will be challenged by Elaine White for Zone 3, a four-year seat.

Worley — Incumbent James Mangan was the only candidate to file in Zone 1 and incumbent George Miller Zone 3. Both are four-year seats.

WATER/SEWER BOARDS

Alpine Meadows — Eric Thurman filed for the four-year seat, while Melissa DeMott filed for the two-year seat.

Bayview — Sharon Meyer and Kimberly Mattern will vie for the No. 4 seat, while Charles Murray and Stephen May will run for the No. 5 seat. Both are six-year terms.

Dry Acres — No one filed for the four-year seat.

Green Ferry — Incumbent Sandy Seright filed for the six-year No. 5 seat.

Hackney — No one filed for the three six-year seats. 

Kingston-Cataldo — Incumbents Gail Haynes and Lloyd Adams filed for the two open six-year seats.

North Kootenai — Incumbent John Hern III filed for the No. 1 seat, William Ogram IV the No. 2 seat and incumbent Curtis Carney the No. 3 seat. The first two seats are six years and the third two years.
