The Kalispell Aquatic Team (KATS) had three swimmers earn first-place finishes at the Montana Swimming Short Course State Championships in Butte earlier this month.

Antoinette Popp won seven events (50 backstroke, 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 200 backstroke, 50 butterfly, 100 freestyle and 100 individual medley) while Caroline Dye was a three-time winner (50 freestyle, 50 breaststroke and 100 backstroke).

Madyson Toren won one event (400 individual medley).

All three swam in the 11-12 age group.

“She was limited,” KATS coach Brandon Rannebarger said of Popp, who competed with a shoulder injury.

“We adjusted her out of the fly stroke and did a lot of work on the backstroke. She was able to qualify for Zones in the 200 backstroke. She had an awesome state.”

As did Dye and Toren.

Dye qualified for sections in the backstroke and freestyle.

“Jace Reed did well as did Philip Rhodes,” Rannebarger said.

“It was nice to see them coming along. They are working hard, making adjustments and had great times at state.”
