The race for the Zone 3 seat on the Coeur d'Alene school board has dropped from three candidates to two.

Alicia Troye announced she is withdrawing from the May 19 election to increase the remaining challenger's chances of unseating the incumbent, Terri Seymour.

"As a parent and a substitute teacher, I felt as though my opinion was not being heard or represented by my current school board trustee," Troye said in a prepared statement. "After announcing last week, the positive support toward my campaign has been huge. I was asked to run so the incumbent would not be unopposed. With two new names on the ballot, the cause quickly became counterproductive."

Seymour, who was elected to her first term on the board in 2011, will face Tambra Pickford in the election.

Trustee Tom Hamilton in Zone 2 was elected at the same time as Seymour. He is not seeking a second term. The challenger, Casey Morrisroe, will run unopposed in Zone 2.
