* A married couple's argument over the wife's drinking ended Sunday with the wife being booked into Kootenai County jail on suspicion of domestic battery.
The husband told sheriff's deputies that he arrived at their home in the 6200 block of Ebbtide Drive near Coeur d'Alene, while his wife was making dinner. She allegedly called him a "piece of ****" and the husband told her she drinks too much. The husband told deputies he then began to pour wine down the kitchen sink, which made his wife "very upset." She allegedly hit him twice in the face with a closed fist and scratched him on the neck and chest.
According to the deputy's report, the wife appeared to be "very intoxicated." She told the deputy her husband choked her before he called 911.
The deputy wrote in his report that the woman's account of what happened did not make sense.
The husband told the deputy he did not want to press charges. He reportedly said he just wants his wife to stop drinking.
*A couple's argument over a Facebook friendship ended violently Sunday near Post Falls.
The woman told sheriff's deputies the incident began when her boyfriend's phone made a notification sound. She observed that he had sent a Facebook friend request to a woman in his "rehab class." The girlfriend said she and her boyfriend then began to argue "due to relationship issues." She said she thought her boyfriend had cheated on her.
She told deputies she walked away and sat on the bathroom floor and cried. A short time later, she said, her boyfriend came into the bathroom, grabbed a fistful of her hair and wrapped his elbow and forearm around her neck and began to lift her off the floor. She told deputies she did not lose consciousness but her air supply was completely cut off, and she feared for her life. The boyfriend then told her to leave his home, and she did.
The boyfriend allegedly told deputies he was not trying to strangle his girlfriend, but was attempting to pick her up, and she began to struggle.
The boyfriend was arrested on suspicion of attempted strangulation and domestic battery.
The deputy wrote in his report that he did not believe the boyfriend was telling the truth: "It does not make sense for a normal person to attempt to help someone from the ground by grabbing around their neck in any way."

* A Coeur d'Alene business was the target Friday of a phone scam in which a caller claimed to be George from "North Idaho Line and Power and Avista."
The caller told the business' office manager that he would be there to shut off the power because their account was two months delinquent. The caller said the business must pay $1,297.78 to keep the power functioning.
A return call was placed from the business to George, who answered: "Good morning, this is George with MDDP. How can I help you?"
When the business employee asked him what company he was with, George asked her why she was calling. She told him because she was told they were going to shut off the power.
"He then said, 'Oh, I am with North Idaho Power,'" the employee said. "I questioned what MDDP was and he hung up on me."
The employee waited 15 minutes and called George back. She requested copies of invoices for the alleged overdue funds. George could not provide that.
The employee called Avista and confirmed the business' power account is not two months behind.
* A "Derringer-type" of pistol was reported stolen from a home in the 2000 block of Oxford Circle. It is believed the burglar entered the home through a bedroom window sometime between March 20 and Saturday. The homeowner wasn't in town.
* An attempted burglary was reported to have occurred Saturday in the 1100 block of 12th Street. A friend of the woman who lives in the house was inside the home when he heard a light knocking at the front door. The woman was at work. The friend told police he ignored the knocking because he thought it was an acquaintance seeking to use a computer inside the home. He heard the knocking a second time and ignored it again. A few minutes later he heard someone trying to enter the back door of the home. He saw someone looking in the back window. The prowler reportedly dropped a pry bar and fled.
