Wow. It's May already! Hey, that's a good thing.

All of our trout lakes are open for business and the ones I visited in Grant County were fishing about as good as ever in the early spring.

Blue Lake and Park Lake, above Soap Lake, made hundreds of families happy on the opening weekend and will continue to do so for many weeks to come.

I should mention that in addition to the great trout fishing on both of these lakes the perch and bass fishing is at its best this year.

I ran down to Potholes Reservoir to fish with my buddy Brian Nielson, of BJ's Guide Service. We tried to catch walleye from Lind Coulee to the mouth of Crab Creek and found the fishing very slow.

I got one nice 20-inch fish not long after we got our lines out in the middle above Goose Island. The walleye are still spawning or just coming out of it, but that will all change very soon and then-look out.

It is going to be hot walleye fishing on Potholes again. I am anxious to see how the pros do in the big tournament at Mar Don this weekend.

Mild weather sets stage for more fishing

We've had a lot of wet but actually pretty mild weather in the region. Anglers that like to chase steelhead have had good conditions for it.
