COEUR d'ALENE - Diane Fountain officially announced that she will run for a commissioner seat in the Lakes Highway District.

Fountain, who currently works part time as an administrative assistant for the Post Falls Urban Renewal Agency, said her 30 years of financial background would be beneficial to the taxpayers of the district.

She has also served as treasurer for Lakes Highway District in the past.

"I have always been interested in local politics and am running for Lakes Highway District because I want to make a difference. My number one priority is transparency," she wrote in a press release. "I want to make the district spending more transparent because you, the taxpayer, deserves to know how your money is being spent."

Fountain, who was born and raised in Coeur d'Alene, will challenge incumbent Daniel Malcom.

Fountain has been married to her husband, Jeff, for 32 years. She is the mother of two grown children, with a grandson on the way.

"I am committed to serving the citizens within Lakes Highway District jurisdiction," she wrote. "I live here year-round and will be available to represent you by listening to your comments and concerns and working to get them resolved."
