SANDPOINT — Fourth graders at Farmin Stidwell Elementary School are calling on teens and adults with Facebook accounts to put a vote in for Rocky as the Idaho Department of Parks & Recreation’s new mascot.

Rocky, an adventurous red fox who grew up along the Pack River, was created by a Farmin Stidwell student as part of a statewide IDPR contest to name the department’s new mascot.

Mary Bruhjell, a fourth grade teacher at Farmin Stidwell, assigned the entire class to come up with mascot names and back stories and then they voted on which one should be submitted into the contest.

Rocky rose to the top in the class vote. Rocky rose yet further when the department named it as a finalist.

The contest is being decided by a popular vote on Facebook. The polls are open until Friday.
