BILL EISENWINTER HOT SHOT TOURNAMENT: Sting tourney to honor Sgt. Moore
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 10 years, 7 months AGO
The Sting Soccer Club plans to honor the life of Coeur d'Alene Police Sgt. Greg Moore at the 24th annual Bill Eisenwinter Hot Shot Tournament, which begins today and runs through Sunday on 29 area fields in Coeur d'Alene and Hayden.
Volunteers spent Thursday stencilling "K27" - Sgt. Moore's badge number - at the center of all fields being used.
Sting players will wear sweatbands with "K27" on them. Bracelets with "K27" on them will be given away at games for a donation.
The Sting will also be raffling off soccer balls signed by U.S. national team members Abby Wambach and Clint Dempsey. Proceeds from all of this will go to the Sgt. Greg Moore and Lindy Moore Fund to help the family with expenses (Information: linkis.com/9zO1I).
Sgt. Moore's son, Dylan, plays on a Sting under-12 team.
A total of 188 teams in 23 tournaments in 20 age divisions are expected for the tourney. A handful of games are scheduled tonight, with the bulk of the games taking place over the weekend.
Locally, the host Coeur d'Alene Sting has 33 teams entered, the Idaho Thunder six, the Lakeland Nighthawks five, the Academy Idaho two.
Schedules are posted on the Sting website, with scores and standings expected to be updated throughout the day.
