Lincoln County High School senior Christian Langston signed a letter of commitment with High Point University this week, where he will compete on the school’s track team beginning in the 2015-2016 season.

Langston has been on the Lions’ varsity track team since his freshman year. He qualified for the state track meet in all of his years of competition.

He has racked up numerous awards and accolades during his tenure with the Lions, including setting the school record for the 100m-dash in 2014, being named Rookie of the Year after his freshman season and Most Valuable for his sophomore and junior years. In all four of his competitive years he earned All-Conference honors, making the All-State team last year.

In addition to track, Langston also played both football and basketball.

Langston’s successes haven’t been limited to the playing field. He’s been on the school’s honor roll every semester and is a member of the National Honor Society. He’s also logged more than 200 hours of volunteer service in his community.

Langston said he was deciding between High Point and the University of Montana, but selected High Point because it is a better match for his long-term goals.

“Basically, my choice came down between The University of Montana, and High Point. Both offered me Academic Scholarships, including the Montana University Systems Honor Scholarship, which is a four-year Tuition Waiver Scholarship. It was a tough decision, but in the long run, I feel that High Point offers more of what I am looking for in my future,” he said. 

High Point University, located in High Point, N.C., is a private liberal arts university affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The university’s athletics programs compete in the Big South conference.
