PREP ROUNDUP: Lake City softball team powers to state play-in game

COEUR d'ALENE - Lake City senior JaeCie Wilson had three hits and five runs batted in as the second-seeded Timberwolves beat the third-seeded Lewiston Bengals 15-0 in five innings in a loser-out game of the 5A Region 1 tournament on Thursday at Lake City High.
Lake City (17-7) will face Rocky Mountain of Meridian (23-5) in a state play-in game on Saturday at 11 a.m. PDT at Fruitland High, with that winner advancing to the state tournament at Post Falls High.
"It was a great team win today," Lake City coach Jesse Lenz said. "And I was really proud of the girls for jumping on the bats early. We are excited for the opportunity to make it to state on Saturday, and we have got to be ready to go to work."
Bailey Cavanagh and Rummor Walker had two RBIs each for Lake City.
Lewiston finishes 12-13.

SPIRIT LAKE - The top-seeded Tigers scored eight runs in the first two innings to take control of a 3A District 1 tournament game, then hung on to defeat the fourth-seeded Wildcats.
Timberlake scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, on two-RBI single by Shelby Starr and an RBI single by Katie Malloy.
Starr went 2 for 2 and scored three runs for Timberlake (15-9).
"We took advantage of some mistakes," Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. "Shelby had a good day. I told the girls every win now gets us closer to a trophy."
Tigers pitcher Brittany Hibdon allowed one earned run against Kellogg (5-13), which scored four runs in the top of the fifth. Hibdon struck out six and walked two.
Timberlake plays Payette at Fruitland at 1 p.m. PDT on Saturday in a state 3A play-in game.

SANDPOINT - The Bulldogs scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to oust the Bears in a loser-out game at the 4A Region 1 softball tournament.
Sandpoint (11-13) will play at Lakeland (8-14) on Saturday at noon for the regional title, needing to beat the Hawks twice to advance to state.
Moscow finished 5-18.
