COEUR d'ALENE - The preliminary hearing for Jonathan Renfro, accused of murdering Coeur d'Alene Police Sgt. Greg Moore, has now been scheduled for June 10.
The 9 a.m. hearing will be in front of Magistrate Barry Watson and is expected to last a full day.
Prosecutors will present evidence and call witnesses to try and establish probable cause and ask Watson to move the case to 1st District Court for a trial at a later date. If the case is bumped to District Court, Renfro would then enter a plea to the charges.
Lawyers for both sides have declined to comment about the case.
Renfro, who is being held on $2 million bond, is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of felony grand theft, unlawful possession of a firearm because he has past felony convictions, and removing an officer's firearm.
Renfro, 26, of Rathdrum, is accused of shooting Moore to death on Tuesday morning in the Sunshine Meadows subdivision. Authorities say he then stole Moore's gun and patrol car.
According to police, Moore contacted Renfro on the 2800 block of West Wilbur Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Moore had been on a routine patrol, and Renfro had been walking in the neighborhood, which has recently been a target of auto burglaries.
Moore called Renfro's name into dispatch, and then dispatch lost contact with Moore. An Idaho State Police detective said in an affidavit filed in court that Renfro admitted shooting Moore with a handgun he had been concealing.
Renfro was found near a Walmart Supercenter near the Washington-Idaho state line after ditching Moore's patrol car and fleeing on foot.
