Born in Kellogg, Idaho, on Jan. 9, 1925, the oldest of four children to Gus and Hedvig (Malmgren) Anderson. Mildred's family moved to Dalton Gardens, Idaho, in 1939 after her father was killed in a lift accident at Bunker Hill Mine. She graduated valedictorian from Coeur d'Alene High, Class of '43, and took a job at the Naval supply Depot in Spokane Valley. Her brother, Leland "Bud," was killed while serving as a motorcycle courier during WW2. Mildred's sister, Mary Jane "Jonny" Stackhouse worked in the office of Kaiser Trentwood for many years, and younger brother, Lyle Anderson, retired from there, as did their stepfather, Oren Bloomster.

Married July 2, 1944, to Conrad J. Tremblay at Fort George Wright in Spokane, Wash., where he served as base photographer, the couple settled in Coeur d'Alene where Conrad opened Fine Art Studio after leaving the service. They raised three children: Paul L. Tremblay of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Charles D. of Post Falls, Idaho; and Marie J. Wutzke of Olympia, Wash.

Mildred, determined to continue her education, graduated from North Idaho Junior College in 1962 and began teaching at Borah Elementary, next at the old junior high on Seventh Street, and at Canfield where she taught freshman science. While teaching, Mildred enrolled in summer classes and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Whitworth College in 1970. She continued to take science-oriented classes throughout her career until retiring in 1987. Mildred fervently supported the North Idaho Science Fair and was active in the local Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, twice serving as auxiliary president. Both Mildred and Conrad were long-time members of CDA Camera Club.

Preceded in death by Conrad in 2010, Mildred passed May 6, 2015, at Guardian Angel Homes in Post Falls after a prolonged cognitive decline. She is survived by her brother, Lyle O. Anderson of Hayden; her three children; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mildred's passion for science and knowledge inspired hundreds of students over the course of her career, and contributed to two of her children and two granddaughters following in that profession.
