Matt Hammond
Grinnell College
Hammond, a sophomore catcher from Post Falls, was named the Midwest Conference South Division Player of the Year. In 16 conference games, Hammond hit .433 with 26 hits in 60 at-bats. He had three home runs, six doubles, 22 RBIs and 14 runs scored and a .683 slugging percentage. Hammond started in 32 of 34 games played for the Pioneers, a Division III school in Iowa, which finished 18-19 overall and 11-5 in conference.
Casey Stangel
Washington softball
Stangel, a sophomore from Lake City High, batted .341 during the regular season with 46 RBIs, with 12 multi-hit games and 16 multi-RBI games. She recorded a season-high five RBIs on three hits against Oregon State on May 4 in Seattle. Washington earned one of 32 at-large bids to the NCAA tournament and will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to face USC Upstate in its opener today at 10:30 a.m. PDT live on ESPNU.

Shippy, a second baseman from Lake City High, was named to the Big 12 Conference all-freshman team. Shippy finished the season with a .306 batting average and with 30 walks, finished with a .432 on-base percentage, the third-highest for a freshman in school history. Shippy finished 16 of 21 on stolen base attempts.
Bekah Kastning
Hillsdale softball
Kastning, a sophomore from Lakeland High, was named second-team All-Midwest Region by Daktronics, Inc. The team is made up from players in the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) and its neighboring conferences, the GLVC (Great Lakes Valley Conference) and recently formed GMAC (Great Midwest Athletic Conference). Kastning had the fourth-most hits in a single season in school history with 66. Her batting average of .423 (66 for 156) was the seventh-best in school history and led the team with 14 doubles. Kastning was also a second team all-conference selection. Hillsdale, a Division II school in Hillsdale, Mich., finished the season 25-23.

Seaman, a junior from Coeur d'Alene High, finished fourth in the Cowpoke Open on May 1 in the discus with a throw of 156 feet, 2 inches. The mark ranks her in the Top 10 throwers in the history of the program. The Mountain West Championships begin today in San Diego.
