The Sherman Arms building on the south side of Sherman Avenue midway between Fourth and Fifth streets has been completely renovated on the second and third stories with changes to the first (retail) floor being completed this summer. The structure was built in 1908 as the Elite (pronounced E-Lite) Hotel and later was named the Sherman Arms Motor Inn. The Lucky Monkey and Shapes Salon are on the first floor, and the Innovation Collective is in the basement.

The second floor, with eight to 10 smaller offices, has had cosmetic upgrades including paint, carpet, woodwork, new bathrooms and a lobby and conference room. One office will house Raymond James Financial Services with James and Kim Chapkis. We'll have details as they get closer to opening on June 15. Three office spaces remain.

The third floor has been renovated into modern apartments - six studios, one bed and bath and one two-bed, two-bath - with high ceilings, all appliances and modern finishes. The south suites have views of the lake, McEuen Park and Tubbs Hill. One studio remains.

Project manager is Ben Widmyer. Phone 292-3770.

MOD Pizza for Winco-Crossroads

A $250,000 building permit has been issued to MOD Pizza for its Building D location just north of Jack-in-the-Box in the Winco-Crossroads shopping center at the south end of Ramsey Road.

Not opening until July, MOD Pizza will have a large outdoor patio with a roll-up door and about 30 employees. Based out of Seattle since 2008, the company has 31 locations.

The menu includes 11 basic pizzas at the same price, sides, salads, desserts, milkshakes, soft drinks, beer and wine. Check www.modpizza.com.

Little Mac's in Riverstone

Little Mac's, a "little kids mommy and me" clothing store, will open in early June at 2061 Main St. (formerly a sports cards store) in Riverstone.

Owners Suzy Hinkley, Jeremy Shute and Laura and Jason Quast also have Nana Mac's across the street. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 to 6 Sundays.

And now for several Tidbits!

- Watch for news on a new Maverik store in the northwest corner of Highway 95 and Hayden Avenue, Marmalade moving from South Fourth Street to the former Sandra Kay's location on Sherman, Willamette Valley Bank to open at 704 E. Sherman and a hookah lounge to open at 2506 N. Fourth.

- Riverstone additions include Cameo Events (grand opening Saturday and moving from Northwest Boulevard - watch for details next week) and Sola Salon Studios on Main Street (also details next week) and future new buildings for Anthony's Restaurant on the pond, Chief Architect and Advanced Health Care.

- No news on the proposed Cracker Barrel and Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants. People always ask about Trader Joe's. Nope.

- The Associated Press Stylebook says to spell "adviser" with an "er" ending. The American Heritage Dictionary says "er" and "or" endings are OK. The stylebook spells "OK" like that; the dictionary says "okay" is okay. They are slang for "all correct."

- When you've seen one shopping center, you've seen a mall.

- A real headline: "Death cuts efficiency."
