STATE HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TOURNAMENT: Lake City goes 1-2, takes sixth in 5A

BOISE - Bidding for their first trophy from state since 2008, the Lake City Timberwolves came up just short on Saturday, losing 11-3 to Meridian in the consolation championship game of the state 5A baseball tournament Saturday.
Lake City (19-12) finished sixth.
Earlier Saturday, after Friday's consolation games were rained out, Lake City beat Highland of Pocatello 8-3 in a consolation round game.
Reilly Cherry of Lake City was 3 for 5 with a fourth-inning homer and finished with three RBIs vs. Highland. Cody Kolden went 3 for 5 and drove in two runs for the T-Wolves, whose top four in the lineup went 10 for 18.
In the second game, Meridian had five extra-base hits, including four doubles, and took advantage of nine walks.
Kolden, Jordan Ross, Cody Garza and Stephen Vaudreuil each had two hits for Lake City.

Timberlake lost 14-4 to eventual champion Fruitland in the semifinals earlier Saturday, then fell 5-4 to Marsh Valley in the third-place game in Ontario, Ore. Timberlake finished 16-11.
St. Maries lost 3-1 to New Plymouth in the third-place game at Rodeo Park in Nampa. The Lumberjacks finished 13-7.
