Sandpoint sophomores Laney Search and Khloe Kyllonen lost 8-5 to Bishop Kelly in the semis of the girls doubles main draw, then were eliminated with an 8-6 loss to Kuna in the consolation semis.

Sandpoint coach Kent Anderson said the players felt the pressure of going deep at state and weren't as sharp as they were on Friday. Nonetheless, the pair gained valuable state experience and figures to get a couple more cracks at state in the future.

"There were moments of brilliance that brought the crowd to its feet. Laney dove for a volley, returned it in mid-air, then hit the next volley from her knees and finished the point. Pure athleticism," described Anderson. "Khloe began carving apart Kuna with her precision cross-courts, but their rally came up short."

Patrick Rockwell and Sadie Nitcy scored a 7-5 win over Canyon Ridge in consolation, before falling 7-5 to Bishop Kelly in mixed doubles action.

"Patrick was all over the court, slamming overheads, running down screaming cross-courts and angling off big volleys," said Anderson. "Sadie was steady, using her quick hands to keep the ball deep. They had match point in the semis, inches from the finals."

In 5A, the Lake City mixed doubles team of CC Cates and Zach Weadick were eliminated two matches away from the placing round.
