Equipment coming to keep it cold

Lakeside Junior/Senior High School in the Plummer-Worley Joint School District received a federal grant to purchase new school lunch equipment.

Lakeside is among 11 Idaho schools awarded the federal grant funding through the Idaho State Department of Education, Child Nutrition Programs. The Plummer-Worley School District received $5,037 to purchase a reach-in commercial refrigerator. It is the only school district in the five northern counties to receive part of $117,485 awarded through a competitive application process.

More than 40 school districts submitted grant applications with more than $700,000 worth of equipment requests. Schools that had not received previous equipment grants or those with a high percentage of students receiving free and reduced-price meals received additional consideration.

The selection committee looked at the age and condition of the school's current equipment, current fund balances, eliminating safety hazards, improving meal participation, increasing food safety and energy efficiency.
