Bluehawks and Horsemen compete at divisional meet

MISSOULA – Last week athletes from Thompson Falls and Plains competed in the boys Western B Divisional Meet at the University of Montana.

The Thompson Falls Bluehawks took second in the competition with a team score of 69 points.

The Horsemen placed eight in the competition with 32 team points.

Competition occurred over two days and on the first day nine finals were held.

In the javelin competition Bransen Krebs of Plains took second with a throw of 155-02 and Kade VanElswyk of Thompson Falls took fifth with a throw of 148-03.50.

In the 800-meter event Russell Kujala of Plains took second with a time of 2:05.43 and Max Birkholt of Thompson Falls finished right behind Kujala with a time of 2:06.97.

Kujala also took third in the 3,200-meter event with a finishing time of 10:28.91 for the Horsemen.

Several Bluehawks also placed in the 3,200-meter event, Tanner Laws took fourth with a time of 10:32.17, William VanHuss took fifth with a 10:44.77 and Xavier Broderick placed sixth with a time of 10:48.75.

Trais Hoisington took fifth for Thompson Falls in the 400-meter event with a time of 53.3.

Josh Wulfekuhle placed fifth for the Bluehawks in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.06

In the pole vault competition the Bluehawks got top finishes from Jake Gascon and Joe Lundberg.

Gascon took second with a 12-06.00 and Lundberg placed fourth with a 11-06.00.

In the 400-meter relay event the Thompson Falls boys took fourth place, crossing the finish line with a time of 44.78.

On day two Kujala took second for Plains in the 1,600-meter event, clocking in at 4:47.42.

Laws took third in the 1,600-meter event for the Bluehawks with a 4:48.78.

For Thompson Falls, McKenzie Holt took second in the discuss competition, with a throw of 143-09.

The Bluehawks got top finishes from Josh Wulfekuhle and Garret Strine in the 300-meter hurdles.

Wulfekuhle took third with a 42.21 and Strine finished less than a second behind in fourth, with a time of 42.22.

In the 1,600-meter relay the Thompson Falls squad was the first to cross the finish line, earning top honors in the event.
