MISSOULA, Mont. - Stephen Vaudreuil went 4 for 4 with a two-run double in the sixth inning as the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen beat the Helena Senators 10-2 in their season opening game in the Dale Dahlgren Memorial Day tournament on Saturday at Maverick Field.

"Stephen had a great approach at the plate all day and we started to string some hits together in the sixth inning," second-year Coeur d'Alene coach Zach Clanton said. "We played with them for a little while, but once we were able to get some hits, we pulled away. And this is how this team is going to be I think, we're going to bend until we break."

Connor Cardinel allowed four hits over five innings for Coeur d'Alene, which faces the Glacier Twins today at 11 a.m. PDT, then faces tournament host Missoula at 5:30 p.m. at Osprey Field.

"Connor had a rough first inning and threw a lot of pitches," Clanton said. "He had a couple of walks and was inefficient with his pitches. But he did a good job of pounding the zone, and that's really what we wanted from him today."

POST FALLS - Chris Kirkeby hit a two-run double to center field to spark a six-run bottom of the sixth inning for the Cardinals in a loss to the Washington Warriors in the Eastside Memorial Classic at Post Falls High.

Prairie walked 16 batters during the game, falling behind 11-1 after two innings.

"Our pitchers struggled to throw strikes," first-year Prairie coach Brian Fowler said. "We walked 16 guys during the game, which put us in a big hole. Bottom line is we can't continue to walk guys if we want to be competitive."

Sam Schultze and Preston Benson had two hits each for Prairie (0-3), which faces the Seattle Wave 18-and-under team today at 5:30 p.m. at Post Falls High.
