Joseph W. Slobojan, 101, of Kalispell, passed away Oct. 30, 2015, at the Brenden House in Kalispell. Joseph was fondly known as “Uncle Joe.”
Born of emigrant parents on Dec. 16, 1913, in Wilton, North Dakota, Joe was the youngest of 5 children. He married Neola Scallon in Wing, North Dakota, in 1936, and they moved to Onalaska, Washington, and then to Columbia Fall in 1954.
Joe worked for Anaconda Aluminum for 23 years, retiring as line superintendent. Joe owned an ornamental tree farm and enjoyed hunting as well as fishing. He was an active member of St. Richards Catholic Church and was also part of the building committee and cemetery committee. Joe was also a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, serving 74 years, as well as a long-time member of the Back Country Horsemen. In his later years he attended Risen Christ Catholic Church in Kalispell.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Alice; wife, Neola; three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include Tim and Diane Slobojan, of Kalispell, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe’s family would like to thank the staff at Brenden House for the wonderful care they gave Uncle Joe while he was there. There will be a visitation for Joe on Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, from 6 to 7 p.m. A vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. with services to be held Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, 10 a.m. at St. Richards Catholic Church in Columbia Falls. Burial will follow services at St. Richards Catholic Cemetery, in Columbia Falls.
