Spooks and specters and ghosts and ghouls were the theme of the night as the Libby school district hosted a Halloween trunk or treat at Central School Saturday evening.

In addition to the various vehicles bearing treats for the costumed masses, the school also hosted a number of games and a haunted house inside the school building.

“Have you been in the basement?” asked superintendent Craig Barringer. “It’s creepy enough when it’s not decorated.”

More than 300 children went through the haunted house, but that was only a part of the number of kids receiving treats from the trunks of cars gathered in the parking lot.

“We had a great turnout,” Barringer said. “We had 340 people go through the haunted house, and Nora and I gave out 600 carrots. So I am guessing most vehicles gave out at least 600 pieces of candy, unless by chance the carrots were the most popular item available.”

The district awarded a prize of $50 in Libby Bucks to the best decorated trunk of the evening, which went to Dusti Thompson and Nancy St. Jean of the Libby Center for Asbestos Related Disease (CARD) Clinic.
