The Lady Loggers volleyball team finished the district meet in second place as the Bluehawks of Thompson Falls swept them in the championship match to claim the District 7-B volleyball crown Saturday afternoon, winning 25-18, 25-22, 25-19.

Mehki Sykes led Libby’s offense with six of the team’s 16 total kills. Ashley Walker chipped in 11 assists and Taryne Luscher served up two of the team’s eight aces in the losing effort. Defensively, the Lady Loggers had 27 digs and 10 blocks, led by Bailie Rosling with 10 and Krysten Mossburg with eight, respectively.

The Bluehawks’ offense racked up 25 kills, 20 assists and six aces. The defense added 11 blocks and 23 digs en route to the title.

“We just could not get anything going for any length of time to make a difference,” said Libby coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston after the match.

The tournament opened with Bigfork defeating the Lady Trojans of Troy 25-18, 17-25, 25-13, 25-16. Alyssa Lewis led the Lady Trojans with nine kills, with Allie Brown and Olivia Roach each chipping in three aces. Brown was also responsible for all 23 assists for the Lady Trojans. On the defense, Kaitlyn Downey had 23 of Troy’s 52 digs, with Lewis contributing four of the squad’s seven blocks.

The Lady Loggers opened the tournament against in-county rival Lincoln County High School. The Lady Loggers seemed to be cruising to an easy win after securing the first two sets 25-22 and 25-19, but the girls from Eureka fought back with 25-16 and 25-14 wins to bring the match back to even before the girls from Libby put it away in a fifth and deciding set, 15-11.

Libby scored 33 kills, with nine from Sykes. She also added eight of Libby’s 14 aces. Walker contributed 15 of Libby’s 27 total assists. On the defense, the girls scraped out 60 digs, led by 14 from Rosling, with 13 blocks behind eight from Mossburg.

The girls from Eureka went on to defeat Bigfork in the consolation match to place third in the tournament.

The divisional will be held Nov. 6 and 7 at Libby’s High School’s Ralph Tate Memorial Gym.
