English unseats Adams
COEUR d'ALENE — Former Kootenai County Clerk Dan English took down incumbent Coeur d'Alene City Councilman Steve Adams in Tuesday's election.
In unofficial results, English got 2,645 votes for 56 percent of the total. Adams received 1,802 votes and 38 percent. Bruce MacNeil, another challenger, received 263 votes.
"I think (voters) were looking for positive — there's been a lot of negative in our election," English said at an election-night party at Fort Ground Grill.
English, 64, said voters know he is middle-of-the-road politically and has been in the community for years. He was previously on the Coeur d'Alene City Council and a Coeur d'Alene School Board trustee. He is also well known for his work with nonprofits in the community, including being executive director of North Idaho Habitat for Humanity.
"I have a long-term track record," English said.
"Elections are about the will of the people," Adams said. "Tonight, the voters of Coeur d'Alene chose my opponent and I respect their decision. I thank my family and supporters for their help and encouragement and wish the very best to Dan English as he serves our community."
Adams has been on the city council for four years.
