DALTON GARDENS — Jamie Smith and Scott Jordan were elected to seats on the Dalton Gardens City Council Tuesday.

With 34 percent of the total vote, Smith led the pack of four candidates vying for two open seats. Jordan obtained 27 percent of the vote, enough to beat third-place candidate Denise Lundy by four percentage points.

Smith, who has lived in Dalton Gardens for more than 40 years, said she ran for the council seat to maintain the lifestyle that residents enjoy so much. She referenced her long-term record of attending council meetings, as well as service on the city's ad-hoc deer committee, during her successful campaign.

Speed of traffic in Dalton Gardens is an issue Smith hopes to address while serving on the council, and she told The Press it is important to enact traffic calming techniques within city limits. She also stated she wants to manage progress in the city while maintaining the heart of the semi-rural community she loves.

Jordan, a native of Dalton Gardens, had previously run two unsuccessful bids for a city council seat. The electrician told The Press he plans on looking at existing ordinances in the city to ensure each is appropriate for the rural community.

He added while he favors increased enforcement of traffic laws within the city, he doesn't believe adding things like streetlights and sidewalks is appropriate for the town. Jordan mentioned he sees a difference in what the current council says it will do versus the action it takes and hopes to address that during his service.
